I found out about Laurie Hagstrom and Cheat The Beach® from a natural bodybuilder who had used her competition tanning services in the past and raved about her.  He stated it was the best competition color he had seen on stage.  So in October of 2009 I was fortunate enough to have Laurie apply competition color on me for the NPC Border States Classic.  Laurie was professional yet friendly while she applied the color, and I could tell immediately that she had an amazing eye for detail, making sure the color was even and believable.  I was sprayed the evening before the competition, went to sleep and the next day woke up to a gorgeous color, not orangey, not reddish, not greenish...just perfect.  It looked incredible up on stage!  I am sure it helped to secure my first place finish in Masters' Bikini.  What's more, the color faded very evenly over the next couple of weeks.  This color lasted a very long time, which was a nice treat since it is always bizarre going from competition dark to your usual pale self in 1-2 days.

PRE TAN INSTRUCTIONS

1. Exfoliate everyday the week of the competition. Don’t use exfoliates with oils in them! Purchasing exfoliating gloves from CVS is best. Use with a shower gel. Don’t scrub too hard as to where you make tiny scratches in your skin, the color will adhere to those scratches and turn really dark! Keep your skin very hydrated and moisturize at least twice daily the week before the competition. The better condition your skin is in, the better your tan will look and develop.

2. Shave the day before you get your tan! At least 12 hours prior. Your skin needs to be in a calm state when I tan you. If your pores are inflamed from shaving too soon before your appointment, the color can sit in those pores and look like little dots on your skin. Get manicures, pedicures and hair done before tanning!!

3. If you are going to wax (I HIGHLY DISCOURAGE THIS) it must be done 72 hours prior. I have seen too many disasters with waxing. The wax residue is very hard to get off and the color will grab on to those patches and turn REALLY dark!

4. The day of your tanning appointment, shower and exfoliate. DO NOT APPLY LOTION! Lotion acts as a barrier and will affect the depth of the tan. DO NOT wear deodorant! IT WILL TURN GREEN!!!!!!

5. DO NOT wear any face make up. I will tan your face lightly so it blends with the rest of you. The following morning, you can remove the “bronzer” to do your make up. You will have a really nice tan on your face. Not too dark, I promise!

6. Bring something VERY VERY VERY loose to wear afterwards. NO ELASTIC WAISTBANDS! No sweat pants with “nubby” material. SMOOTH FABRIC LIKE VELOUR SWEAT PANTS that “hang” on your waist are good. A SHIRT THAT BUTTONS UP THE FRONT is best. Like a flannel etc. NO ZIPPERS! They are too heavy and will rub on your tan. DO NOT bring a shirt that needs to go over your head. Any time you have to do this, you move the color around too much while it’s drying. Bring flip flops to wear after.

7. Be very careful when going to the bathroom! STAY AWAY FROM AUTOMATIC FLUSHING TOILETS!!!!!! I will show you some tricks on how to pee when you come to your appointment. Don’t freak out if you have some mistakes or water drops or some minor rub off. I CAN FIX ANYTHING! But remember, the more you follow these directions, the less mistakes you will have, which means less time for me to fix them, which means less stress on you and me!

AFTER TAN INSTRUCTIONS

You will get darker as the solution sets in to your skin and the hours go by. We will “powder” body fold areas before you leave each appointment so you don’t feel “sticky.” It smells really good so don’t worry about not wearing deodorant. For obvious reasons, you will not want to perspire or sweat after your appointments! Bring an umbrella if it there is a remote chance of rain! Plan your day accordingly. It is best to be completely covered when you sleep! You don’t know what you do in your sleep, so if you rest your hand on your stomach, etc, you will wake up with a brown hand and a hand print on your stomach. It is best to wear long, loose pants like pajama bottoms and a long sleeve pajama top to bed. Covered from wrist to ankle!

Find out at the meeting when you will be going on stage. This will help me and you decide when to come see me for “touch ups” the morning of the competition. Morning touch ups will be done at my location.  I will fix any little marks or mistakes you may have. You will look perfect when you leave me to go to pre judging. Please remember to be aware of your surroundings and the others around you as well. WATER IS NOT YOUR FRIEND!!!!!!!!! CAREFUL WHEN DRINKING IT OR WHEN NEAR A SINK OR TOILET!

During the break, before the final show, you can come to me again for more touch ups! I will call you with my location near the venue. Please let me know ASAP after pre judging whether you will need to see me or not.. Send a text or call to let me know if and/or when you will be coming!
